Norway is one of the world’s most skilled countries at tunnel construction with the world’s longest underwater car tunnel. Being a challenging country for building roads has taught us to secure our roads. We build lasting solutions in concrete. Solutions that provide flexibility, strength and durability.
Ølen Betong developed element solutions as early as the 1980s, and has since further developed and delivered concrete solutions for a wide range of road and railway tunnels in Norway. Concrete is chosen in preference to other solutions because of its unique characteristics and strength.
With three factories in western Norway we can provide a production capacity of 1500-2000 m² of elements per day. Deliveries in large ship loads from harbours at the factories, as well as specialized vehicles for transport into the tunnels, is one of our major advantages where distance means less.
The fire-proof “Norway element”
Over 1.5 million square metres of precast concrete tunnel linings have been delivered for more than 120 road tunnels in Norway. Insulating concrete tunnel linings are developed in cooperation with the Directorate of Public Roads and leading entrepreneurs within construction and safety of traffic tunnels. The solution may be delivered as a complete arch or as concrete wall elements, either un-insulated or in combination with insulation on the back. We can also supply precast segmented tunnel liners with insulating concrete. Research and development have also provided us with concrete solutions that withstand fire!
For optimal adaptation to any cross-section, we work out 3D construction drawings that take into account the curvatures in the tunnel profile, placement of safety recesses, niche openings and cross-galleries.
Technical rooms and SOS stations are a part of the solution that is delivered ready-made from our factories in Sveio and in Sandeid. Along with prefabricated foundations, drainage systems are also supplied for use in combination with the precast tunnel liners.
